You are part of the treatment team
Patients whose families are organised — reports in one folder, medicines charted, questions written down — genuinely do better. Keep one notebook that travels with the patient to every visit.

Watch for the things patients hide
Pain at night, skipped meals, low mood. Mention them at reviews even if the patient plays them down.

Share the load
Rotate hospital duty between two or three family members from the start; treatment is a marathon, not a sprint. Accept help from neighbours and relatives for food and transport.

Your own health matters
A caregiver who collapses helps no one. Sleep, eat properly, and step outside the ward daily — even ten minutes. If you feel persistently hopeless or exhausted, tell the doctor; we can help you too.
