Worried about something? Look it up

Look Up a Symptom

Most symptoms here have harmless explanations — this page exists so the few that matter are never ignored. It is guidance, not diagnosis: when in doubt, one OPD visit settles what months of worrying cannot.

Anaemia that keeps returning

See a doctor soon

Unexplained or recurring anaemia in an adult deserves a proper work-up — it can be the first sign of a gastrointestinal or blood cancer. Get a complete blood count and see a physician with the reports.

Appetite loss lasting weeks

See a doctor soon

A few days of poor appetite is common. When it stretches past 2–3 weeks with weight loss or tiredness, it needs an examination and basic blood work.

Blood in stool

Don't wait — this week

Never assume piles, especially past age 40. Bleeding with a change in bowel habit, weight loss or anaemia needs an oncologist or gastro evaluation this month, not next year.

Blood in urine

Don't wait — this week

Painless blood in urine — even once — warrants an ultrasound and urine tests promptly. It can signal bladder or kidney disease including cancer.

Blood while coughing

Don't wait — this week

Coughing up blood needs a chest X-ray and a doctor within days — sooner if you smoke or chew tobacco.

Bone pain at night

Don't wait — this week

Deep bone pain that wakes you at night, or a limb swelling in a child or young adult, needs an X-ray and prompt review.

Breast lump

Don't wait — this week

Most breast lumps are not cancer — but only an examination and tests can say so. Any new lump, in any age, should be examined within 1–2 weeks. Do not wait for pain; cancers are usually painless.

Breast skin or nipple change

Don't wait — this week

Dimpling like an orange peel, a newly pulled-in nipple, or blood-stained discharge — each needs a clinical breast examination soon.

Cough lasting over 3 weeks

See a doctor soon

A cough that outlives three weeks — particularly in a smoker — needs a chest X-ray. Most turn out benign; the X-ray is how we make sure.

Difficulty swallowing

Don't wait — this week

Food sticking on the way down, or needing water with every bite, is never normal. It needs an endoscopy referral promptly — oesophageal problems are treated far better when found early.

Fever that keeps returning

See a doctor soon

Recurrent fever without a clear infection, especially with night sweats or weight loss, needs blood counts and a physician review.

Headache: new pattern with vomiting

Don't wait — this week

A new kind of headache — worst in the morning, with vomiting or blurred vision — needs urgent medical attention and imaging.

Hoarse voice over 3 weeks

Don't wait — this week

A hoarse voice that does not recover in three weeks — especially in tobacco users — needs a throat examination. Early voice-box cancers are highly curable, often with radiotherapy alone.

Indigestion or fullness that persists

See a doctor soon

Persistent upper-abdominal discomfort, early fullness after small meals, or new indigestion after 45 deserves an examination and possibly an endoscopy — do not live on antacids for months.

Jaundice without pain

Don't wait — this week

Painless, progressive jaundice needs urgent evaluation — an ultrasound and liver tests within days.

Lump in the neck

Don't wait — this week

A neck node that persists beyond 2–3 weeks, keeps growing, or feels hard needs an FNAC — a ten-minute needle test available in our OPD, reported in 24–48 hours.

Lump under the arm

See a doctor soon

Armpit lumps can be reactive nodes — or the first sign of a breast problem. Persistent ones deserve an examination and an FNAC if needed.

Mole that changes

See a doctor soon

A mole that grows, darkens unevenly, bleeds or itches should be shown to a doctor. Photograph it monthly to track change.

Mouth ulcer over 3 weeks

Don't wait — this week

An ulcer that refuses to heal in three weeks — especially with tobacco or gutkha use — is the single most important early sign of oral cancer in our region. Come in this week; the examination takes minutes.

Night sweats, drenching

See a doctor soon

Repeatedly waking with soaked clothes, with fever or weight loss, needs blood counts and a physician review — it can be a sign of lymphoma, which responds well to treatment.

Post-menopausal bleeding

Don't wait — this week

Any bleeding after menopause is abnormal until proved otherwise. See a gynaecologist within days — early uterine cancer found this way is very curable.

Red or white patch in the mouth

See a doctor soon

Flat red or white patches inside the cheek or on the tongue are pre-cancerous changes, most common in tobacco chewers. Caught now, they may need only minor treatment and quitting tobacco.

Swelling of the abdomen

Don't wait — this week

A belly that keeps enlarging without weight gain elsewhere — with or without pain — needs an ultrasound soon, particularly in women, where ovarian disease is a silent cause.

Testicular lump or heaviness

Don't wait — this week

A painless testicular lump in a young man is urgent — testicular cancer is among the most curable cancers when treated promptly. An ultrasound settles it quickly.

Tiredness that will not lift

Routine — mention at next visit

Fatigue has a hundred causes, most of them benign. When it persists beyond a month despite rest, start with a blood count, sugar and thyroid test — then see a physician with the reports.

Unexplained weight loss

See a doctor soon

Losing more than 4–5 kg in a few months without dieting deserves a proper work-up: examination, blood tests, and imaging if indicated.

Vaginal bleeding between periods

Don't wait — this week

Irregular bleeding, bleeding after intercourse, or foul discharge needs a gynaecological examination and a cervical screening test — cervical cancer gives these warnings early, when cure rates are highest.

Wound that will not heal

See a doctor soon

A skin wound or sore that has not healed in 4–6 weeks despite dressing needs a biopsy — chronic non-healing ulcers can turn cancerous.

A note from the doctors

This page cannot examine you, and no website can. Its only job is to make sure a warning sign gets seen by a doctor while it is still early. If a symptom here has been with you for weeks — come in. The visit is short; the reassurance (or the head start) lasts.
